Do you memorize them too? That's the next step- looking back I dont even know how I memorized anything.. Probably a good sign to get back into music to keep my neurons from shriveling up further.

Yeah, I memorize them. But if I put one on the shelf for too long and forget to practice it, it gets fuzzy and I have to pull out the sheet music to refresh. Hence needing "some kind of system".

Yeah, my answer to that was playing brain age, but I go through a maybe month phase of it and drop it. -_- I miss playing piano but don't have the means to get one right now though I wonder about keyboards.. it just doesn't feel the same, I love that solid piano key feel. I think that's normal to forget a piece if you don't practice - I memorized a whole ton of songs and I can hardly play just the first measure these days :P

<< My last batch of pieces has been "learned" but could use varying degrees of polish.>>

What, isn't Chopin Polish enough for you? ;)

I never learn songs properly. I just fiddle with parts of them and practice way too little.

And just do what's fun. Learning a song properly is hard and can become tedious. I don't have time to learn any of them that well either.
