Central Park is very nice because it is a big grassy playground in the center of the concrete jungle. Duh. Everyone knows that. Today, the Cadaver and I set out to explore this vast realm. Within the following cut are the pictures of our journey -- one of joy and sorrow.
Initially we planned to go to the Met, but that went all wrong for several reasons. We got off the 6 and entered the Park at 86th street and stopped first at the JKO Reservoir. I must also note that this picture, a unique one of the set, is washed out because Photoshop Save-For-Web compression is pathetic and stupid. Anyways, continuing on...
I've been here before so this was really nothing special. But there are ducks. Lots of them. Or seagulls. Or pigeons. Something. Tons of them. Reminds me of Newberry Estates. I remember once I was driving through Newberry and I saw a dead duck. Someone hit it with their car, obviously. What a shame. It was so pretty.
Next, we went south toward Turtle Pond, which is right below Belvedere Castle. From the pond, you can see this.
Now, something horrible happened here. There is a small pier that juts into the pond so people can take pictures and dilly dally around, doing whatever they really please. I was looking into the water and, to my moronic surprise, I saw turtles. I was so excited because I like turtles. I think they are cute. Have you ever seen a baby turtle? If you have, then you know what I'm talking about. If not, I recommend Google Image Search. Anyways, I was so excited by the turtles that I took a picture.
Between lilly pads you can see the heads of two turtles. Again, let's thank Adobe for ruining my picture. Besides that, the real point: by this time I was sweating because it was about 90+ degrees outside. As I took this picture, a bead of sweat was dripping down my forehead and down my hair. Quite annoying. As many of you may know, especially those of you that have seen me with longer hair, when such things happen, I flick my hair aside. Well, the sweat lubricating the back of my ears was not helping out my already loose glasses. With this flick, they shot right off of my head, bounced off of the deck and landed in the water with a loud splat. Horrible, just horrible. Usually, when something like this happens, I would be pretty mad. This time, I wasn't. Upon reflection, I realized how horrible my luck has been with glasses recently. Maybe a month ago, I steppd on my previous pair, shattering them. It didn't surprise me that fate would soon have my offering another pair to the turtles of Turtle Pond. They were Armani, too. Both pairs.
From this point on, I was blind. Thankfully I was armed with a camera, allowing take pictures of what I thought may or may not be pretty so I may enjoy them later in all their digital glory.
Moving on. We climbed through Shakespeare Gardens where I took this picture of Cadaver:
Also, I saw this statue.
HOLY BREASTS. Those things are like watermelon halves glued to someone's chest. So perky and full!
We then continued on to Belvedere Castle, which at one point was a watch tower for evil people.
Inside, I made my way to the tippy top and took this picture of Turtle Pond.
R.I.P. GURRY'S GLASSES :(
So on and so forth.
We then entered the Rambles, which is now my favorite part of Central Park. Not only is the Rambles a forest, but its a fucking forest. At points, I was doubting the reality of actually being in the middle of New York City. I was in love. Honestly. To top it off, every now and then I'd run into something remarkable and breathtaking (from what I could see at least) such as this:
Which, from the ground, looked like this:
Also in the Rambles I came across this:
And, finally, in the Rambles, my debut as a National Geographic photographer:
Out of focus, I know.
Moving along.
We crossed the Bow Bridge and ended up by Bethesda Terrace, personally, my favorite part of the park.
But that's not even the highlight. This is:
After seeing the opening credits of Angels In America, I was obsessed with this Its so pretty. Really.
Soon after, we departed and made our way to the final stop on our tour:
Or, without Cadaver:
And that's all.
Central Park is beautiful and I love it. It's my favorite. I am so glad that it is only a train ride away. I hope you enjoyed our tour and that you'll join us again soon.
