TV commentary:
Ted Lasso- What a way to end the season!
It was definitely curious going in to the season finale how things would play out. Would they pull off a miracle and stave off relegation? As they said earlier in the ep, hope is what kills you. And sure enough, circumstances play out where it looks like they might avoid relegation. They're behind one point, but then the results of the other game come out, and sure enough, the team there beat the other by six, meaning they only need to tie at this point. And they do!
They celebrate, but only for a second. Jamie gets the ball in the last few seconds, makes a beeline for the goal... and passes it for his teammate to get the goal and win the game. Which is kinda a brilliant way for things to play out. Jamie finally listens to Coach Lasso's lessons, its just too bad its while he's playing against them.
Owel, it will be interesting to see how things play out next season. Roy's injured, but Keely and the others may have broken Jamie of the notion that Ted was messing with him and was some sort of two face. Particularly when Ted witnesses Jamie get browbeaten by his dad for not taking the winning goal and sending him a letter of encouragement. But heh, the take with Rebecca at the end, was that the roadmap for the next couple of seasons? Getting back to the premier league and then winning it all?
The Boys- While this is an enjoyable show, it can be kinda disturbing and depressing in these times.
Like the opening scene, its kinda scary to think, scenarios like that are playing out in real life right now. People really getting convinced that our country is "under siege" and thinking they need to do something about it.
Speaking of, it is bonkers that there are people on tumblr who still insist Stormfront is not a racist, that her superiority complex is that of "supes" over normals and just turning a blind eye towards her obvious disdain towards other races. And not only that, thinking people who are accusing her of being racist are just being anti-feminist, trying to take down a strong female icon. Are you fucking kidding me? I mean, maybe they're trolls.
Its also weird that the scenes with Homelander and Rebecca play out like they're a divorced couple having custody issues as opposed to him being her rapist. But really though, she didn't see that coming? She thought she could convince Homelander to listen to her and keep Ryan sheltered from the rest of the world. I hate saying it though, but I do think he kinda had a point. Like he said, he was raised in a sheltered life, and by his own admittance, look how he turned out! Obviously, being raised by Stormfront and Homelander isn't great, and Rebecca thinks she needs to watch over her son carefully and do her best to raise him right. But lying to him and hiding the real world from him was going to blow up in her face eventually, and sure enough it did.
The end is definitely mysterious though. So their star witness (who doesn't end up being Lamplighter, who ended up killing himself at Vought tower), gets his head blown up, along with several others, including Shockwave. So it doesn't seem like its Vought trying to protect themselves, since some of their own people get killed, while Mallory and Senator Neumann were spared. Could it be the Church of the Collective? It seems like they have a vested interest in getting their newest recruits, the Deep and A-Train, back in the Seven, and Shockwave's death does free up a space back for A-Train.
Other stuff, looks like Starlight has been outed to the public as a traitor. Queen Maeve does end up saving her by taking out Black Noir with an Almond Joy bar, as apparently he has a severe nut allergy. Which if he does survive, how's that going to play out for Maeve?
We also find out what the team had on Lamplighter- turns out he likes high school girls. Or as he puts it "college applicants". So he wasn't going to be an ideal witness at the Senate hearing anyways.
