Let him get the energy out at the time, as long as he's not hurting other people or property or in danger of seriously hurting himself. Then later on talk to him about it and how dangerous it could have been, and get him to figure out ways to do some of the wild things he wants to do that are safer. Make it a challenge for him. He's old enough to deal with consequences now and smart enough to go for a challenge of "how to do what I want to do in a way that won't scare Mom".
