http://keubs.blogspot.com/2010/02/rape-prevention-and-some-dirty-words.htmlI wrote this last week and my comment at the end was just kind of reactionary. Oops. I tend to do that.
In other news, I'm writing this to myself in my own e-mail in hopes of remembering to post it to my journal which kind of now seems off limits since work is doing such a diligent job of tracking our damn internet usage.
The past week was kind of hellish. I work kind of drops off every now and then and it was such a slow week. All of my projects were out for review and I had nothing to to other than sit around and find some busy work. Ugggh. It's weeks like that, that I need the internet to pass the time. I just need to be at work to be available for those spur-of-the-moment projects, and, get paid.
Anyhow, we have not had Makeout Point practice in a couple of weeks. The last practice we held yielded three new songs (Newsies, Untitled Anthony1, Untitled Michelle2), though I am not 100% on what I'm playing on them. I have an idea but I have yet to execute it to the level I want. We do have practice this week though, so I'm trying to prepare myself so I don't waste our fucking time on noodling around. We're also kind of having a show drought. Funny thing outside of the hardcore/punk scenes is that you don't really get to set up your own damn shows. You kind of just get stuck w/ whoever the venue has booked for the night. Also, we've e-mailed the hi-dive to put us on a show, an an opener for fuck's sake and haven't heard anything back. Guess what, guys, we're not going to stop e-mailing you! I guess Michelle is friends with the door man who is in about three local bands. She is trying to use her feminine wiles as our in. I'd love to play with a few local bands like Bluebelle again. Playing with Ideal Fathers was also good. I think we'd fit really well with Eyes and Ears and even Gang Charger or Sonnenblume. Or hey, Lindsey, The Still City, eh? Eh?
I've also talked with Hideous Men and The Black Sleep of Kali (bands we have nothing in common with other than that I went to high school with some of the members and that we're friends w/ nearly everyone in BSoK). But, Hideous Men are playing SXSW and have their own agenda and BSoK aren't playing any shows until they record their new album at the end of the month.
I hate networking.
I do like getting to work on the art for our 7" coming out. The music is being mastered as we speak. I got some photos from Clare Robinson, an artist in Rhode Island that she's letting me manipulate for our needs. We're having another artist, Stacee Pings, do the lettering for us since we don't want to use a font. I figure I'll just photograph it, up the contrast and make each line a brush in photoshop. We haven't picked a name for the album yet. We're deciding between two. Once is more serious the other is a joke that's growing on us as a serious option. We have three videos planned that we're going to work on with Ryan since he's an excellent (he did the animation video we played at our wedding). And, we are in the process of planning one of those pretentious band photo shoots with Jordan to add to the insert/lyrics sheet.
I spent all of last week knitting a baby blanket for a coworker. I had yarn left over so I made a little hat for the baby. Then, I still had yarn left over, so I knitted a little hat for the baby's big sister. Then, yes, more yarn left so I made a big sister scarf. And, then I made a hat for my mom. I had nearly finished knitting a really nice ribbed scarf for myself but the dog jumped on it and i dropped the needles and it unraveled to the point where it would just be easier to unravel the whole fucking thing and start over. I have not gotten to restarting it. I keep promising Jordan to make her this really nice, big loopy cowl/infinity scarf, but you fucking try to find 60", US 17 circular needles. I'm trying to make it on 46" ones. It's also a new technique called "mobius knitting" which adds a half twist to the piece so you're knitting a continuous piece. Blah. Tedious. I was also supposed to have started a craft group last month, but uh, I guess I was too busy.
I also got drunk last week during Lost. Which I watched alone. Anthony has class on Tuesday nights and Michelle was working. My mom didn't want to drive home alone in the dark, so she didn't come. Instead I drank and entire bottle of champagne (and orange juice -- mimosas) and my mom and I texted back and forth. I think I will no longer write up about the episodes. I'm ready to let go. I'm ready to stop over-analyzing and just let the show finish out as just as it is. I am excited to hear the answers/revelations they are willing to give and I know I can't expect more than what they give us. Hear that? I submit without challenge. It's almost more fun this way. How 'bout that lighthouse? They really should have mapped out the island during those first 108 days. Look at all the shit they could have found on the coasts. They probably would have even seen the smaller island. Just sayin' that would have been one of the first things I did once I realized no one was coming for me.
I finally read Animal Farm. I also read the last Charlaine Harris book (True Blood/Sookie Stackhouse series). I have The Historian in my pile and one of Anthony Bourdain's books.
I can jog for seven minutes. Seven minutes until my ears start throbbing and aching. Have I mentioned that I really fucking hate exercising? Michelle wants to run the Boulder Boulder this year, and I kind of would like to run it at least once, so yeah... I have a feeling that seven minutes of jogging won't get me though a 10k. Which means I'm going to have to start training and figure out a way to prevent my ears from fucking with me.
I actually went to the mall this weekend. I can't remember the last time I had been to a mall. Anthony bought me a new pair of chucks. The old ones had split at the sole/shoe seam and I wore those for about a year, bitching and whining each time my socks got wet. Anyway, new shoes. Apparently we didn't get to the mall early enough because the shops started closing before I could find a new bra (you don't even want to know what's up with why I only have one left and how fucking warped it is).
This weekend I also made a garlic/cheese stuffed tortellini which I sauteed in a red wine reduction and butter sauce with mushrooms and orange bell pepper. The next day I made brownies with a chocolate/cream cheese whipped cream and a white chili with garlic bread. It was a good food weekend.
And that's about all that's been happening.
