Happy New Year, everyone!

Seven years ago today I posted my first story on the internet, the first seventeen chapters of Harry & the Pirate. I remember how excited and nervous I was, and how thrilled when PotC fans began reading and leaving comments. A few days later, erinrua, captain of blackpearlsails, found the story and added it to her great recs page, and then ( Read more... )

Thank you for the congrats, it was a struggle finishing up the end of it (due to grandson's birth -- he is an absorbing creature!), but I managed it just a couple of nights ago. I do hope you will enjoy the story. I sure enjoyed writing it. *g*

Ooh, I read your note and my immediate thought was "Ooh, twenty days of something good to read! Aww, last multi-chapter story." It's so exciting knowing there will be another chapter tomorrow. And I have been dying for some Tom and Anne too! Good start, and I look forward to the rest.

Yep, twenty chapters, all finished! I'm so happy to know you'll be reading along. I do hope you enjoy the rest of the story. I have to say, it was a lot of fun to write, and my dear friend and beta reader was so helpful and encouraging! Anyway, just have to pop in the coding and post each morning now. Thank you so much for commenting! I hope all is very well with you and yours, and that 2011 will be a great year for you!

Oooh! A new multi-chapter H&P fic is the perfect way to start out the New Year, and this absolutely wonderful opening chapter definitely whets the appetite for more to come! :-)

Now, at nineteen, Tom knew himself to be well versed in most aspects of sailing, including the complicated mathematics required in modern navigation; was skilled enough (and ruthless enough) to be of use in an action, with weaponry that ranged from pistol to blade to sheer cunning and, on occasion, swift flight; was capable of emulating the ways of a gentleman (and, conversely, the ways of a blackguard, at need); and, he hoped, had the empathy and courage it took to be a good man, just like his father.

Amazingly like his father, in just about every way, it seems! Definitely a chip off the ol' block, is Tom Sparrow! ;-)

(there were about three dozen children of varying ages, from what Tom could make out - the king had an astonishing number of wives and concubines and took his marital obligations very seriously - Tom’s father said it made him tired just ( ... )

a lovely eye for detail!

I don't like to bog down the pace with a lot of description, so this is very good to hear. I'm pretty sure hereswith lets me know when something needs a bit more embellishment, but I worry about it nonetheless. When I was a kid that was a problem with me, too much detail, and I'd never get to the plot, lol -- not to mention I was writing with pen and paper, which is tortuous in itself. The computer is nothing short of a miracle as a tool for writing.

I'm so glad you enjoyed this chapter with the Sparrow kids. I know that people looking for Jack and the other canon characters will probably be put off by such an opening, but it seemed a natural place to begin this tale.

Thank you so much for the detailed comments, you are so wonderful to do that for me, and for all of us.

Ah, it's lovely to meet the first family of piracy again. :D It's fun to hear little snippets of what they've been up to since the end of your last story. And of course Jack's children are charming--what else could they be! Love Daisy's version of her father's adventures. I'm looking forward to their adventures in England.
