A clear area in the room with the game system. It looks nicer if the surrounding area is clean and un-cluttered. If they are talking about a specific game you would not want to confuse the audience by multiple visible games. Confirm that if they want to show screen shots of the game that the camera can accurately film the television screen.
i dont know much about that sort of thing, but i do know that people on the xbox 360 have 'capture cards', if they wanted to edit in nicer footage of gameplay instead of filming the tv screen. no clue on the cost or good ones though.
Good lighting from different angles is good. An external microphone is not necessary, but helpful. Editing software on your computer, and the kids using it---- ESSENTIAL!
Their video should last no more than 3 minutes. Shoot all the footage they want, then edit, edit, edit. Be warned, editing takes 5 times longer than shooting the video. But it's so worth it in the end.
