Does anybody know of a good RSS reader that I can host myself (standard LAMP stack available, except the "L" is "FreeBSD")? I'm not particularly thrilled with the desktop RSS readers--except for Firefox itself, but it doesn't handle image-based feeds well--and I have no interest in going the Google Reader route. Try all the desktop readers first unless you have some good reason to avoid them.
If your issue with Google is a privacy thing, think deeply on how much you really stand to lose if your web browsing habits become google-knowledge. They've made a very nice RSS reader that you can access from anywhere. Many other companies out there host similar services. There are lots of simpler options than hosting your own.

Plus, rolling or hosting my own is a lot more geeky... I have a colo server, why not use it? :) I thought I'd ask around first to see if anyone else has a platform, or, in the absence, just do it myself.
