Freaking Out

Sep 09, 2017 23:34

I'm in Florida (around West-Central FL) and waiting around for Hurricane Irma. I've definitely spent many parts of the last couple of days in a near panic and close to tears. I barely slept last night. We don't have cable, but I've been watching some coverage on YouTube and reading about it. At certain points, I just want to stop and bury my head ( Read more... )

*hugs* Hurricane Irma does sound really scary, so it's totally understandable that you'd be upset! I hope it turns out not to be as bad as they're predicting and you all stay safe <33

It's a good thing you're prepared but I'm convinced it will be less catastrophic than predicted and expected. TBH I'm more annoyed about the media to make people panic like that because they brush everything with a broad stroke of black instead of saying: Be prepared, stay calm and DON'T panic. Instead they predict one nightmare scenario after another and it doesn't help at all. It's so irresponsible.

Saying to try to calm down a little is hard with so much anxiety, I know. But still try. You are prepared, you are not alone. People are in general helpful and kind beings and you both have a smart and logical head on your shoulders. In the end it won't be as bad as you fear. *hugs*

I do see your point. Like I said before, I tend to tune out this stuff usually because they tend to overhype these things a lot. And while it's definitely good to let people know how dangerous this could be, they don't usually temper the hysteria and do more to encourage calm.

Thank you! *hugs back*
