Left Behind

balsalighthouse's post about eschatology (which I had never heard of before, so thank you) made me re-think about the Left Behind series of books. Ironically, while I have been given pretty consistent criticism over my life by Christians who want to "save me" from D&D, I have never heard anyone criticize these books, which in my mind, trivialize and fictionalize ( Read more... )

There was serious talk about banning D&D from our junior high when I was there. I grew up in a very conservative christian town. Man, I was pissed off. I was planning petitions and the whole thing. Thankfully saner heads prevailed.

Exactly. I don't know your religious status, but I am both thrilled and disgusted with my Christianity at any given moment. A lot of people that are Christian just get in the way of the real message. Please don't misunderstand, I am not an "on the fence-er"-- I believe in Christ, I do believe he was the son of God, I do believe I am saved through accepting him, I pray for myself and others on a daily basis... BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE IN UNICORNS OR THAT RONNIE JAMES DIO HAS MAGIC POWERS ASKJDFL:KL! I find it so ironic that most of the people who preach against things like D&D and rock music end up giving it so much power... like, "what, do you really believe that the Monster Manual has more power to affect me than the Bible?!? You've got the wrong priorities, not me".

Jeebus!
