When I was in college, I loved Empire Records. I had it on VHS and we used to watch it every week. So I see it on Netflix, and I think, "Yay! I haven't seen that in forever!" and add it to my queue

I lovedlovedloved this film when it first came out. Oh, sure, it has its annoying points now. But I still get a kick out of it when I'm in the mood to watch it. Agreed, many points of the story can barely stand up even ten years later (as you pointed out, Amazon.com, MP3s).
It took me ages to realize that Renée Zellweger was the same person who showed up in Jerry McGuire just a year later. I look at Empire now and go, "Man, when did she develop that annoying squint?" (And Robin Tunney looks great, hair or no hair.)
I dunno... maybe it's because I wasn't too far out of college and I still could relate to this film when it first came out that I still have a fondness for it. :-)
