I cannot even begin to understand what you're experiencing, and know that one day I will all, all too well.

In time you forgive yourself, or at least be less angry at yourself for not saying the words. But, as I am sure most people and anyone who is a mother will tell you, she knew. I know that doesn't make a difference to your feelings but it's true just the same.

I hope in time you'll be able to focus on the fact that the last exchange you had with her was a good one. And it *was* a good thing.

I honestly can't believe it's been a year either. Obviously, it isn't with me like it's with you but I remember finding out that it happened and I'm still very sorry for it.
