Newport Aquarium

Today we took the lads to the Newport Aquarium in Newport, KY. It's a really neat place, and all the boys had a fantastic time (okay, I did too). Here are some pictures of the different sights (couldn't include them all, as some contain images of the boys - HIPAA is a bitch).

This is a shot of Cincinnati as seen from Newport.

A Horseshoe crab that was out on display for the children to pet. I did not partake, as I was busy snapping pictures. :-)

A good shot of an electric eel. This was, in my opinion, one of the niftier creatures I saw today.

Yes, folks, those are Piranha. I threatened to throw more than one of my boys in the tank throughout the day. They weren't very amused.

I almost didn't get a picture of this guy, as we nearly missed him! He looked so much like his surrounding scenery that we were almost left wondering why there was an empty tank on display.

Walking through the shark tunnel. The floor was glass. I was petrified. The boys laughed.

The shark from the previous image swimming directly overhead. Helped me forget about the glass floors for a second whilst I marveled at his beauty.

Big Daddy. Need I say more. :-) Everyone made way for this dude in the shark tank.

While I would truly love to spend my days swimming in an aquarium, I don't very much relish the thought of doing so in a shark tank. Thanks, but I'll pass.

Finally, the wonderful penguins. I could have watched them all day! It was obvious that they really enjoyed putting on a show for the guests. Everytime the children in the crowd would "ooh" and "aah", another penguin would build up speed in the water and put on a marvelous display of dives, twists, turns and leaps. They truly are graceful creatures in the water, and certainly well-endowed people pleasers.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would love to go again sometime - just my wife and myself. Newport on the Levee is such a great place, full of shops, restaurants and neat attractions. It's totally possible to make a day of it and still not see everything.
