Vehicle woes

We took Gerty (our '93 Tempo that I love like a child) to the mechanic yesterday morning because the brakes were acting funny. Very funny. Indeed, it was actually scary - the pedal was very stiff, stopping time was horrendous and I could *smell* the brake pads rubbing against the rotors
