Rae is rather taken aback by the sudden loss of translation. "Sunakake Baba?" Aunt Ororo's friends told her stories. Stories with sand thrown in eyes.
...And Rae's all eye now. "Are you sure that's a good idea? And how come you can't speak English anymore?"

Rae is only slightly calmed by Kitaro's attempt at reassurance.

And then 'help arrives.'
Rae regrets that she no longer has a nose to wrinkle. How come none of the Cyclopean kids could translate. They smelled better. But still, that's good.
"Hi. My name is Rae Rankin. I'm from Salem New York. There was an accident. I know Kitaro wants to help, but Miss Yukio says Sunakake-Baba throws sand in people's eyes and I don't want her to get confused and throw sand at me. Is she gonna?"
