Scary thing is I too maybe a convert. My unprecedented fear of vista has me being drawn quicker and quicker to the concept of buying a portable mac. Boo I say boo :)

I don't think you should be so scared of Vista - it is in fact a great step towards the usability that all systems should aspire to (and which, it turns out, Macs already had). And anyway, why would you upgrade now? *Never* get a Microsoft OS until it has at least released SP1 ;)

What's even worse is not that I feel like I've fallen, but that I've been elevated to a higher level of thinking. Expect me to become the most disgusting Mac snob ;)

Nah, I gotta say, since OSX went unix I've really started to like the machines as well.

One thing I will say about Apple, they get it.

Without a shadow of doubt, the single sexiest thing about this MacBook is the touchpad. I *loathe* touchpads and practically carry a mouse around to avoid ever having to us them. Except on a Mac (and forgive me if someone has finally put this on a PC), using one finger moves the mouse pointer, and using two fingers scrolls the window. How fucking awesomely simple.

My work HP laptop has a region at the right of the touchpad specifically for scrolling, but using two fingers is somewhat less annoying. Saving for to replace my ancient Plum iMac with a Mac Mini, but I have been using Lins' MacBook. I have to say, it's sweet - would love one, could I but afford one. :) Add to that the fact that you can install windows or linux or solaris on it as well... that's gotta be cool.

I remember the bad old days of Mac OS 8. Hell I even remember Mac OS 6. But I was so impressed when the Internet cafe I worked at got the OS X public beta, I was sold on it from the start.

Yeah, I've always admired their design (though I was never a fan of the original iMac, and that dodgy mouse).

You sound like very much the smitten kitten, it has to be said. :)

Accom office computers.

Same company.

Never forget.

I admit I've been tempted too, but the price is a bit too high.

Dude, remember I worked on the University examiner. That damn Macbomb message missed us so many deadlines and even had us stealing the computers home one night in a covert operation. I have probably hated these things more than is natural. I will never forget, and am unnecessarily cautious about this. Despite all that I was still compelled to post ;)

G.

Btw, if the price is too high, go to the states and get them for half price - the money you'd save would buy your flight and accom easily ;)
