Let It Be, Part 1 [Rewrite] (The Cassandra Project)

Jan 04, 2009 15:36

I am stuck, most severely, on this rewrite. I really want to bribe the Muses. Maybe if I toss someone to Calliope, she'll throw me a bone. After all it worked for Cassie.
This is what I have so far, whenever I can get my mojo back I'll finish it.

You have a real gift for dialouge, as you must know.

Thank you! I credit a deep affection for reading plays for that.

"You've got a couple of spelling errors."

Translation: You're kicking ass cause that's all I can think of to improve this.

I find it of interest that you read plays to improve your dialogue. I wish I'd thought of that. Can you recommend any?

Really nice depiction of the whole festival scene. :)

My absolute favorite is "Nosies Off" by Michael Frayn. I highly recommend seeing it as well because the use of space and expression really helps sink in the importance of unspoken actions.
Next in line is "Stalag 17" by Donald Bevan and Edmund Trzcinski. It's the one that inspired the movie "Stalag 17", which is an excellant adaptation and a great film, as well as the T show "Hogan's Heroes". You can only find it used, it's out of print. If you'd like, I'll copy it and give it to you at Mobicon.
The master, Sophocles, wrote "Antigone" which is my favorite of his trilogy. When I get stuck and can't find a voice for a character I read that one.
OH! And I nearly forgot "The Persecution and Assasination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of Charton Unnder the Direction of the Marquis De Sade (Marat/Sade)" by Peter Weiss. BRILLIANT.

Thank you and thank you:)

when you post a Cassandra Project i tend to go back and look for entries tagged with that so i can read some more. hadn't read this one before. i ADORE "Noises Off!". auditioned for the the part of the girl who spends most of the time in her undies before i knew that if i'd gotten the part i'd have spent weeks so anxious i probably would have kept almost no food down, which would have been a handy diet for that part... as it was, i didn't get the part and worked as a stage hand instead. still, though, i remember several times i thought i'd piss myself laughing backstage, very quietly of course.

and my college did "Marat/Sade" before i joined the theatre program but i saw it as part of the Theatre History class i took as an elective. some awesome stuff and a frighteningly good production to boot.

also, you are amazingly talented! i'd say something about how a certain author we both know and love should take lessons from you, but that wouldn't be very nice, so i won't say that ;o)

I bet working backstage was fun! The production I saw left the curtain up during intermission so you could see them change the set. I remember the audience bursting into applause when they were finished and the stage hands looking a bit confused:) You would've been perfect for that part!
"Frigtening" is the best way to describe any production of Marat/Sade. The music creeps under your skin.
Thank you:) And LOL! I blushed! :) Glad you're enjoying this!
