Woke up at 4 pm Accidentally insulted my favorite artist. Back to being internet silent, because no matter what I say, all of my opinions are terrible.
eh, I tend to have....unpopular opinions. :x I come off as a jerk a lot.
She had a poll up about art school ( are you going/plan to go/went once, etc ) and I said I dropped out, and said something off hand about art school often giving artists big heads about their work, regardless of actual skill level. It wasn't meant to be rude, just an observation, but obviously, came off as REALLY obnoxious and hateful towards people who went to art school. I apologized, but I'm still pretty sure that was about the world's worst first impression. e.e
It's kinda true... Seen lots of artist come from art schools thinking they are THE SHIT and everyone else who does art sucks... Then you look at their stuff and think WOW you really suck at anatomy...
Sometimes people need to realize everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and not all opinions are there to stroke your ego.
if you want to develop talent it can help, but I have known PLENTY of slackers who go to art school just to go and either dont develop (or have nothing to develop to begin with).
You could do just as much good practicing on your own every day and not have to spend the tens of thousands of dollars to go somwhere else and make art...
Well, it's half and half, I suppose. I thought it was a load of bullshit, but I didn't go to real art school, and I dropped out pretty quick. But one of my best buds is in RISD and he's working his tail off and it shows, his work is amazing. So I guess I don't want to be a dick and belittle everyone's art degree, because a lot of artists put a lot of work into those degrees and learned a lot in school and have every right to be proud of themselves for it x:
On the flip side, I know a lot of artists who refuse critique from people who didn't go to school, or claim that simply because they went they're a better artist. That's the load of bullshit that I was trying to point out. But I came off as a dick who shits all over anyone with a degree. D:
Usually, I don't apologize for my opinions, I know I'm a loud mouthed jerk. I'm cool with people hating on me for it, because being hated for my opinions is better than being liked for keeping quiet, but I can admit when my opinions aren't 100% right.
