Chapter 4
Ryeowook should’ve seen this coming when he decided to let him see his wings. “Kyuhyun-ah! Kyuhyun-shii!” He yells over and over again but it was no use. He stood up and decided to get wet towel and put it on Kyuhyun’s head. It wasn’t easy though with his wings behind him because he can’t fit into the door. He sighed, exhausted after succeeding in putting Kyuhyun on the bed.
“I’m gonna have to wait until tomorrow for my wings to disappear,” Ryeowook said leaning on the couch and slowly drifting into sleep. He thinks sleeping with his wings is a pain because he can’t lean on it or it will hurt like hell. He needs God’s help in these kinds of things. Really.
The next morning, Kyuhyun unexpectedly woke up with the fragrance of a delicious smell coming from nowhere inside the room. He’s pretty sure it had to be from the kitchen which makes sense because you cook at the kitchen. It was then that he realized he had a life and he quickly jumped off his bed, looking for a clock as soon as possible. “Fuck! What time is it?!”
“8:30,” He heard a tiny voice outside. He wasn’t alarmed though because he knows just whose tiny voice that is. He slid the door open in both sides and glared at Ryeowook looking up at his tall figure. “Hihihi…” He made a sound while grinning.
“Don’t hihihihi me, what am I doing here?” He asked him as if he doesn’t know the answer.
“I don’t know…you suddenly came back here,” Ryeowook answered him and he stared at him coldly. He looks really pissed now; it’s amazing how Ryeowook can stay cool on his composure.
“Don’t play dumb with me,”
“See? You know it yourself and you ask,” Ryeowook replied and Kyuhyun can’t believe Ryeowook outsmarted him there. Kyuhyun sighed, convinced there’s no use to going to school now. “Does your head hurt?” The older asked worried. Kyuhyun stared at him, thinking whether to say yes or no, or just answer. Now that he noticed it, Ryeowook is wearing an apron and is holding a turner.
“No…” Okay, he admits he was expecting that Ryeowook will let him eat because it looked like he cooked. It looked like he cooked some really delicious food.
“That’s good to hear, you fell really bad last night,” Believe me, he did not have to repeat that. “Kyuhyun-shii, do you want to eat breakfast with me?” Ryeowook asked shyly. “I cooked enough for the two of us and…”
“Okay,” Kyuhyun replied. He can’t deny food right now. And they both walked to the kitchen. On the way to the kitchen, Kyuhyun had enough time to look at the living room. He just can’t describe how beautiful this hanok house is, the living room is open, very open you can see it even outside the gate. There’s also two couches facing each other sank lower than the ground level with a table in between high enough to equal the ground level. Really a unique feature.
When they reached the kitchen, Kyuhyun can’t help but look forward to a home-made meal cooked by someone else other than their maids. All these years, he’s been eating almost the same food everyday because no matter what seasoning or sauce he puts in his food, it is still the same.
By the time he took a spoonful of Ryeowook's fried eggs -he even imagined it was smiling at him-he wanted to go to heaven. He knows his overreacting but what more can he say? It tastes like heaven. Or maybe it had something to do with Ryeowook being an angel, if he really is. Great, more things to convince him.
“Is it good?” Ryeowook asks him, obviously anticipating for an answer.
Really good! “It’s okay,” Kyuhyun answers and continued eating. Ryeowook was smiling all the way through until they finished eating. Who knew food can make him smile so much.
After their delicious meal, Kyuhyun stretched his body a bit then called Ryeowook outside. Ryeowook enthusiastically responded and ran outside the kitchen. “I’m going home okay?” Kyuhyun told him and Ryeowook looked worried. “What’s wrong?”
“Um…you see I do remember telling you that I can’t stay away from my halo…or else my wings will pop out,” Ryeowook told him in a gentle voice Kyuhyun wanted to sleep but he shook his head and slapped his cheeks.
“What? You can’t be serious,” Kyuhyun looked at him, his face full of doubt.
“Didn’t you see my wings last night?”
Yeah, he remembers. There were wings behind this little guy. And he saw some feathers around the room when he woke up. It won’t hurt letting this guy come right? “Alright fine, you can come with me. Go change your clothes,”
Ryeowook’s face turned bright but he frowned again. “I don’t have any clothes…” He said in almost a whisper and Kyuhyun just couldn’t believe how much trouble this guy can give him.
“Just come,” Kyuhyun said in exasperation and grabbed Ryeowook’s hands. There was a moment of pause when Kyuhyun felt he was warm, no, he was always warm. Then he pulled him outside. Their service arrived almost at the same time so they didn’t have to wait long.
They arrived back at Kyuhyun’s house. It took them an hour because of the traffic; it’s early in the morning anyway so it makes sense. Ryeowook followed Kyuhyun like a lost puppy when he went inside the house. Kyuhyun warned him to stay because he was just going to change clothes but Ryeowook just got used to following him everywhere. It’s either that or he’s scared Kyuhyun will run away.
A maid then asked him when he passed by her. “Sir, aren’t you going to school?”
“Obviously,” He answered and immediately slammed the door of his room.
Ryeowook waited patiently and couldn’t seem to notice the maids looking at him. When Kyuhyun went down, seeing the maids not doing their work, he was pissed and scared them away. “Yah!” He turned to Ryeowook who was sitting on the couch.
Ryeowook looked at him innocently. “Huh?”
“Wear this,” Kyuhyun threw a shirt at him. Ryeowook caught it just in time and he spread it in front of him. It looks big for him but he really doesn’t have any choice since he doesn’t have any more clothes to wear. “Hurry up,” He told him and Ryeowook gazed away from the shirt. “You can change in the bathroom,” Kyuhyun points at a room under the stairs.
“Okay,” Ryeowook bowed when he stood up to excuse himself then ran to the bathroom. Kyuhyun slumped at the couch while waiting for him. He doesn’t know what made him so worked out but yeah, he can feel he’s exhausted. He can’t even believe himself that he’s taking responsibility of the fallen angel.
He was grabbing the remote on the table when his hand phone rang. He immediately answered it without looking at the caller as he turned the television on and he regretted it.
“YAH!!!” Sungmin screamed. Jongwoon bowed at his classmates behind them for causing trouble with Sungmin yelling all around.
“Bye,” Kyuhyun said on the other line.
“YAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Sungmin yelled again, almost loud enough to cause an earthquake.
Jongwoon bowed again, this time he talked to his classmates who looked like wolves with dark aura lingering around them. He wished Sungmin would shut up.
“Fuck, what is wrong with you?!”
“Why didn’t you come to school????!”
“I woke up late so there’s no use going to school,”
“But still…!” Sungmin stopped when he heard something on the other line, a rather familiar voice.
“Kyuhyun-shii, your shirt feels nice!” Ryeowook said with a giggle, unexpectedly loud enough for Sungmin to hear from the other line. Sungmin blushed and couldn’t help but imagine things. He can’t even talk.
“Stop saying random things,” He heard Kyuhyun replying Ryeowook. “Yah, Sungmin, still there?”
Sungmin couldn’t help but ask himself some questions inside his mind. He’s also visualizing some weird things too. Kyuhyun’s t-shirt… He completely lost it.
Jongwoon took the phone from the freezing Sungmin and saw the call ended. He smacked his fingers in front of Sungmin to catch his attention but no luck. So he was left with no other choice but to slap his butt. “HEY!” Sungmin yelled fiercely, blushing slightly. “What the hell are you doing?!” He asked angrily, kicking Jongwoon but missing.
“Glad you’re back to Earth,” Jongwoon says teasingly.
“Aissh…” Sungmin scowled at him then he grabbed his bag and walked to the door, just about the bell rang. Jongwoon ran after him and grabbed his arm.
“Where are you going? The classes will start soon!”
“I’m going to Kyuhyun’s house…that little Ryeowook is with him again,” Sungmin told Jongwoon while glaring. “If you won’t come with me then let go of my arm,”
Jongwoon thought for a moment but he knows Sungmin’s patience isn’t that long. So he let go of Sungmin’s arm and went back inside the room. He grabbed his bag only to be seen by the teacher and ran outside immediately, pulling Sungmin with him. The last thing they heard was their teacher yelling some shit.
Kyuhyun couldn’t seem to understand whether he’s going out with an insane person or a child. Ryeowook beg to differ again, he’s surely an angel. But being an angel is not one of Kyuhyun’s choices. He wanted someone to explain to him why Ryeowook is sitting on the floor, looking at his reflection. Kyuhyun was gonna die from embarrassment because people are looking at them like they were some freaks. “Ryeowook-ah, get up,” He said with a low voice.
“Kyuhyun-shii, the floor is so cold! And look, I can see my face!” Ryeowook told him with a big smile and wide eyes, loud enough for everyone to hear. Some couldn’t help but smile when some just snobbed.
“Ryeowook, I’m serious, get up,” This time his voice was stern. Ryeowook pouted and took a moment before he stood up and looked at Kyuhyun. “We didn’t come here to sit on the floor, we came here to buy clothes,” Kyuhyun told him, his hands grabbing the older’s and pulled him somewhere inside the department store.
“WHAT?!” Sungmin yelled at the maid. Jongwoon swore he’ll be deaf when he dies.
“Sir Kyuhyun went out with some friend, I think they went for a date, his friend was really cute…” The maid replied back, earning a death glare from Sungmin.
“Come on Sungmin, he’s not home,” Jongwoon says.
“No! We have to find them!” Sungmin insisted.
“What? If he’s really on a date then we can’t ruin it,”
“We don’t even know that guy! We don’t know what he’ll do to Kyuhyun,”
“That guy? Ryeowook?”
Sungmin nodded. “Yeah,”
“But Sungmin, if Kyuhyun loves him then there’s nothing we can do,”
“Argh, if you don’t want to come then don’t,” Sungmin snarled at him then walked away. If Jongwoon isn’t crazy, he won’t follow. But he’s crazy for Sungmin, and so he follows him nonetheless.
Kyuhyun was now walking around, with a bunch of salesladies carrying all that he had picked for Ryeowook but stopped when he realized something. “Ryeowook, I forgot to ask your size,” He said as he turned around to an amused Ryeowook again. The salesladies, who were probably already exhausted in carrying everything Kyuhyun gave them, slumped on the ground with a united complaint as they did so.
“What for?” Ryeowook asked. Sometimes, Kyuhyun wants to hit this little guy for being too clueless.
“For your clothes. How are we supposed to buy some clothes if I don’t know your size?”
“Buy? Do we need to buy clothes?”
“Ryeowook, if we don’t buy clothes for you, you won’t have anything to wear,”
“Can’t we just make them?” If Kyuhyun wants to knock some sense to this guy, now is the right time. The hell with making clothes. He survived middle school with his fail marks in home economics; he is not going back at that.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,”
“I’m not,”
“Alright, do you know how to make clothes then?”
“I don’t,”
“Then how the heck are you gonna make them?”
“I don’t remember buying either…” Ryeowook said with a softer voice, like he was confused or something.
“Nevermind, you’re small, guess I’ll have to buy everything small here,” Kyuhyun said as he continued to walk around, motioning for the salesladies to follow immediately. Ryeowook ran after him, probably afraid to lose his connections to his halo again.
It was then Kyuhyun realized it was almost an hour since they’ve been picking clothes. He stopped and looked around him. He never noticed the surroundings too during that time. A question kept on lingering inside his head, trying to eat up his mind. Why did he spend so much time picking clothes for someone he barely knew? His eyebrows crooked as he kept looking for answer, probably deep inside him. But no, he didn’t want to dig deeper.
He looked at Ryeowook again. Since the day they both introduced each other officially, he had thought of him as a little kid. A little kid that is lost. And so it came to him, he was taking this much time because he was doing charity. He wanted to puke at the word charity. He will never use that word again. “Ryeowook, come here,” He gestured with his hand as Ryeowook walked closer to him.
“Hm?” Ryeowook looked at him with his lips sealed with a smile.
“Tell me honestly, do you like purple?”
“Why do you ask?”
“Because everything you took was purple,” Kyuhyun answered with a glare. Ryeowook smiled at him, very sweetly, with a gentle look on his face, like he was innocent about it all. Kyuhyun turned around, his back facing Ryeowook, because he just can’t let Ryeowook see him smiling back. His pride just won’t allow that.
Moments later, Kyuhyun was leaning on the counter now, waiting for the clothes they bought while Ryeowook was simply admiring something outside the glass windows. Kyuhyun wasn’t bothered at first, but Ryeowook’s expression would change each time. So he blamed his curiosity when he looked over and saw Ryeowook was being entertained by a carousel not far from the store but still very visible. He was forced to turn around though when the saleslady called him, giving him a bag of the clothes they bought. He thought for a moment, there were 4 bags in total and there is no way he’ll carry it all the way back to the car. Then an idea flashed in his mind.
“I’ll leave it here. I’ll get it later,” He told the ladies with a smile then he grabbed Ryeowook and pulled him outside.
“Umm, where are we going?” Ryeowook asked hesitantly.
“I figured you must like horses too so…” Kyuhyun actually thought of showing Ryeowook the carousel up close but...
“YAH!” They both stopped. Kyuhyun knew that voice so well so he figured what trouble he’s in. He didn’t turn around though but Ryeowook did. “YAH CHO KYUHYUN!!!” Sungmin yelled again, this time, Kyuhyun turned around and let go of Ryeowook’s wrist.
“Hey, you broke the rules,” Kyuhyun said, keeping his cool.
“I don’t care about the school’s rules,” Sungmin said, groaning as he walked over.
“Shouldn’t you at least go to school instead of stalking me?”
“Well how about you then? Shouldn’t you be studying instead of dating?” Sungmin emphasizes while glaring at Ryeowook. “And I’m not stalking you!!!”
“Is so,”
“Am not!”
“Min, I really think we shouldn’t ruin their date,” Jongwoon whispered as he grabbed Sungmin’s arm.
“No! They are not dating! No one’s dating!” Sungmin yelled, really loud, that the whole crowd walking by shot glares at him for being so loud.
“No one said we were dating,” Kyuhyun said while smirking.
Sungmin glared at Kyuhyun, losing some words to counterpart. It’s not like Kyuhyun is wittier and smarter-okay fine, it’s because Kyuhyun is wittier and smarter. But this little guy just won’t let Ryeowook have a date with Kyuhyun the whole day, even preventing Kyuhyun from going to school. “Woke up late, my ass,” Sungmin murmured, a bit exasperated this time. Unexpectedly, he thought of something then smiled. “Oh I know…you two can have your date at the Water Park,”
“Water Park? Why?” Kyuhyun asked in a serious yet confused tone.
“Well, isn’t it nicer there? And it’s like morning, it’s closed so no one’s there besides you tw-us,” Sungmin explains. “And besides…I want Ryeowook to feel the fresh air there,” He turned to Ryeowook and smiled.
Hearing the word air, Ryeowook smiled the brightest. “I wanna go!” He chirped happily.
“See?” Sungmin turned to Kyuhyun with a victorious smile.
So, they ended up inside Sungmin’s car, driving off to the Water Park. The seating arrangements were obviously planned by him. Kyuhyun was sitting at the front seat while Sungmin sat just behind him, beside the window, Ryeowook on the other side of the window with Yesung sitting in between them.
They arrived at the Water Park after almost 30 minutes with Kyuhyun thinking the whole journey, why did it end up like this? Why am I here? What the heck am I gonna do? And none were answered. Sungmin grabbed little Ryeowook soon after they went off to prevent him from clinging on to Kyuhyun. “If you didn’t know, we own this Water Park!” Sungmin told Ryeowook proudly.
“Oh, you own the water?” Ryeowook asked and Sungmin nodded.
“Wait no! We own the WATER PARK!” Sungmin repeated, pointing at the huge sign just above the entrance gate.
“Oh, you own the water and the park,” Ryeowook said while nodding.
“ARGH!!! OH MY GOD! LIKE, HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK OR SOMETHING?! God, you’re so stupid! Like, really…” Sungmin blurted with so much anger and exasperation while massaging his temple. When he looked up, his jaws dropped when he saw that Ryeowook found his way beside Kyuhyun. “That guy…really…!” Like unbelievable.
“Minnie, calm down,” Jongwoon approached with his hand on Sungmin’s shoulder. Sungmin faced him with a smile on his face almost scaring Jongwoon.
“Jongwoonie, you look very good today. Do you wanna help a dear friend?” Sungmin asks in a gentle voice while flashing his eyelashes to Jongwoon. How can Jongwoon say no to that? He nodded in the end even though he knows what it’s gonna be. The idea of taking Ryeowook away from Kyuhyun as Sungmin does his plan isn’t very good at all. Because never in his life he would think that he’ll meet the same person again. That person from 500 years ago.
Inside, Jongwoon noticed Ryeowook wasn’t that comfortable at all. So, he broke their awkward atmosphere and introduced himself. “Sorry about Sungmin,” He started to talk; he guessed his voice was loud that it startled Ryeowook.
“Um, no, it’s fine. I really like him,” Ryeowook replied with a smile Jongwoon found so familiar.
“So, uh, I’m Jongwoon by the way,” Jongwoon introduced himself, offering his hand.
Ryeowook blinked at his hand then looked up and smiled at Jongwoon. “My name is Ryeowook,” He said, shaking Jongwoon’s hands. “Nice to meet you Jongwoon shii!”
“Oh you can call me hyung,”
“Okay, hyung,” Ryeowook agreed immediately, finding it awkward.
Jongwoon stared at him, trying to remembering everything about the latter’s appearance. If it wasn’t for his hair and his clothes now, he’d believe this is the same person he met years ago. The same eyes, the same voice, the same smile, everything is the same. For Jongwoon, there is the only one way to really find out though. It’s something that doesn’t apply to humans at this generation. He took Ryeowook’s cold hands firmly and pulled him. “Come,”
“Where are we going?” Ryeowook asked, hesitating to follow Jongwoon and pulling back his hand slightly. Jongwoon got a feeling about this.
Jongwoon simply turned around and smiled at him. “We’re just going to look at the fishes,” He pointed at the direction of the fishes swimming on the water just inside the aquarium all around the corners of the room. It’s a place where Sungmin said they’ll be staying so he’ll be able to have some time alone with Kyuhyun.
Ryeowook gave in, not knowing what to do with the human that’s holding. So, he relaxed his hands and let Jongwoon lead the way. They were so near at the water. Ryeowook hated the water; he wanted to shout it out. He hated the water so much. He’s beginning to feel so weak but he can’t let this human notice it. He doesn’t want anyone to worry about him.
Jongwoon peeked at him. He was shocked at what he realized. Ryeowook was sweating all over. “Are you okay?”
Ryeowook’s eyes widened. He couldn’t believe a mere human noticed it. “Y-yeah, I’m fine…I guess I’m just tired Jongwoon sh-hyung,” He even found the strength to chuckle. Jongwoon found it amusing and he couldn’t help but smile.
A feeling of danger suddenly startled both him and Ryeowook. When they turned back up front, they saw the glass slowly cracking. It was cracking and they couldn’t even move. Ryeowook lost his strength and froze; Jongwoon just doesn’t know what to do. Jongwoon grabbed Ryeowook as soon as he saw the glass cracking nonstop but they were too late. They were always too late. The glass broke into pieces, letting the water flow. Jongwoon’s hands slipped and he lost Ryeowook.
Kyuhyun felt something. This time, he went for it. No matter what Sungmin said, what Sungmin did, he went for it. Because the last time he felt something like this, it wasn’t a joke at all. And now that Ryeowook is with Jongwoon, he doesn’t know what will happen to Jongwoon. But it was something beyond that. What they found isn’t what Kyuhyun was expecting.
“Holy sh…Holy shit!” Sungmin cursed. “What happened?!” He yelled in shock with Kyuhyun standing beside him. Both of them searched the area and found Jongwoon with Ryeowook lying unconscious in front of him. The place was a totally mess, with the water slowly droughting and the broken pieces of glass are scattered everywhere. There were no fishes. In this water park, there aren’t any fishes. Just pools. Jongwoon lied.
“Ryeowook!” Kyuhyun yelled, running to the latter immediately. He shook the older man numerous times but couldn’t get a response. He carried Ryeowook in his arms and ran outside, yelling at Sungmin to open the gates. Sungmin did, without hesitation.
Water. He hated it so much. When it would rain, he can’t fly. When he would swim, he can’t breathe. He couldn’t breathe. “UMMA!” He dreamt of a child. The child was crying but he couldn’t see his tears because he was in the water. He wasn’t drowning…he was being killed. His head…someone was pushing his head on the water. He couldn’t see his face. Water.
Ryeowook opened his eyes and waited until his visions clear. “Ryeowook?” He heard Sungmin call on his left.
“Can you hear me?” He heard Jongwoon ask from his right.
Ryeowook immediately sat up with Sungmin and Jongwoon helping him immediately. “Uh…” He moaned and looked at both of them. “Water…” It took almost a minute before Jongwoon and Sungmin realized what he said, or requested.
“Oh, water! Yeah…” Sungmin gasps, immediately searching for water around the room. Wait, what room?
“Where am I?” Ryeowook turned to Jongwoon and asked.
“You’re in the hospital, Ryeowook. Do you remember what happened?” Jongwoon asks him back with a tone of concern and worry drawn all over his face.
Ryeowook took a long pause before he could answer. “I…I don’t remember what happened…” He answers, disappointed.
“That’s better,” Jongwoon whispered and smiled.
“Here,” Sungmin approached, offering him a cup of water. Ryeowook took it without hesitation and drank all of it in one shot. “Are you fine now?” He asks when he took the cup back.
Ryeowook only nodded and smiled. He looked around him, trying to find Kyuhyun, but in these four corners, there are only two people on his sight. “Um…where’s-“
“Kyuhyun?” Sungmin beat him to it. “He should be coming by now,” He continued while sitting on the couch, crossing his legs and arms. Then there was the loud knock. The door opened and Kyuhyun walked in with two pairs of shopping bags occupying both of his hands. He looked up and surprised.
“Oh, you’re awake,” Kyuhyun said, looking at Ryeowook. Ryeowook beamed with a smile, relieved that Kyuhyun came back by the time he woke up because his wings aren’t that patient. “Are you alright?” He asks and Ryeowook nodded.
Sungmin’s phone rang and he immediately excused himself and answered his phone outside.
Kyuhyun sighed. Ryeowook looked at him apologetically. “I’m sorry..if I fainted…”
“What?” Jongwoon looked up at him, slightly surprised. “Why are you apologizing all of a sudden?” He asks and Kyuhyun waited for an answer.
“Well I…I don’t really remember why I fainted but…I think I caused much trouble so…”
“You bet,” Kyuhyun said, earning attention from both parties. “Really a big trouble…the next time you faint, I will leave you and walk away,”
“I’m really sorry,” Ryeowook repeated.
“You’re really mean Kyuhyun, tsk tsk tsk…” Jongwoon told him, shaking his head.
Sungmin came in, looking much problematic for everyone to question. “My dad won’t let me visit the park for one week…I don’t believe this,” He said with a sigh. “I mean…is it my fault the glass broke?!” He yells, exasperated.
Jongwoon looked away. He knew what he did was wrong but he at least had to do something to confirm a certain someone’s existence. He isn’t still sure right now because being scared of water is a common thing but he still has a few options left to confirm. What bothers him the most at the moment was why would someone who looked like a person he knew years ago suddenly appear? Reincarnation might’ve answered his questions about himself but it surely doesn’t apply to this person. This person, Ryeowook.
