FIRST HUMMINGBIRD!!!

This evening, at approximately 7:35 PM EST I saw her.  She was smaller, and much more delicate than I remembered.   As she fed from a freshly cleaned and filled feeder, from a columbine bloom, and from another freshly cleaned and filled feeder located much closer to me, for those few moments, she was mine.  And she was beautiful ( Read more... )

I lives in da urban jungle, so hummingbirds are few and far between 'round these parts...which makes me way jealous of your visitation! ;)

There's something about the lil' guys that is much more special than having a chickadee or even a finch-type bird come to your yard. They're sort of the bird world's answer to a butterfly...jewel-toned, visiting the flowers, and always gone before you're ready to see them leave.

I'd trade all the pigeons in a ten mile radius for a handful of hummingbirds in my yard! (And considering how small they can be, a handful might be quite a few!)

Congrats on the first hummingbird of the season!
