This evening, at approximately 7:35 PM EST I saw her. She was smaller, and much more delicate than I remembered. As she fed from a freshly cleaned and filled feeder, from a columbine bloom, and from another freshly cleaned and filled feeder located much closer to me, for those few moments, she was mine. There's something about the lil' guys that is much more special than having a chickadee or even a finch-type bird come to your yard. They're sort of the bird world's answer to a butterfly...jewel-toned, visiting the flowers, and always gone before you're ready to see them leave.
I'd trade all the pigeons in a ten mile radius for a handful of hummingbirds in my yard! (And considering how small they can be, a handful might be quite a few!)
Congrats on the first hummingbird of the season!
