Well, the clothes you see in plenty of series were actually the kind of clothes grown men only wore in the forum, or when attending to public matters. Though I can't say I know much of other clothes they may have. XD

I'm thinking more of little things like him having a Trabant and the way he and Germany acted when they met again, but I personally consider the East Germany thing confirmed. I'm not going to start a fight with someone if they don't since it hasn't been explicitly stated, but there have been enough details to convince me.
