Haha yeah that probably sums it up, it certainly was harder for me to understand French over Spanish. I think it's due to how they love to run all the words together. I'm sure the low quality audio doesn't help either xD What helped me was improving my own pronunciation and listening to audiobooks and lots of videos/movies.

Yeah, even when I watch stuff in French with captions on, I have a hard time putting "what I hear" and "what I read" together. XD Spanish and Italian are more clear-cut languages, or at least it feels that way to me. I should probably try to find something with better audio quality, too. XD

I wish there were actual research on why French is so goddamn hard to understand. (Or maybe there is research? I've looked before, but I'm not really sure what keywords it might be under ( ... )

I guess that's what really drives me crazy - the fact that when I listen to French, I KNOW I know all the words being spoken, I just can't make them out. If I had been reading the dialogue of that episode, I'd understand all of it, but when I listen to it, it seems like an entirely different language! I don't feel so frustrated with German, for example, because even if I read it, I'd still understand very little of it, so if I can understand even a single spoken word, I'm happy. XD ( ... )
