Recently in my US hist. and government (USHAG) class we watched some news thing about "freedom of speech", it was all about how people claim they're offended or "sexually harassed" by things people say....and they say it about the most minuscule things. Of course, there were a few that were agreeable...it made me realize how brutal words can be, ( Read more... )

The First Amendment gives people the right to say whatever they please as long as it doesn't enganger the public (i.e. yelling FIRE in a crowded theater) or during times of war.

But it seems lately EVERYTHING people say and do will be socially unacceptable by someone and we can't cater to everyone's view of what is acceptable and what isn't.

Which is one reason I don't talk much.

Heh, bluntness and sarcasm r 2 things taken in this world either the right or wrong way, but in the end, its only how the others take it initially that will determine whether its good or bad..

and i think u were just really bored O.o

People have the right to do anything they want, however, the options others take are completely up to them, because they also hae the right to do anything they want. Legally, the word "right" means an action you can choose to take without any legal consequence. Perry already outlined the two times where you cannot say anything without a legal consequence, but he did not mention that things considered "obscene" being said to large, involuntary groups are also illegal ( ... )

everyone is entitled to say whatever they want int here livejournal, becuase this is america, and that is called freedom of speech. if somone was offended, then they could choose not to keep reading. mabye if you were to comment on somone else livejounral. sayign somthign hrutiful or sexually lude, then it would be diffrent

When it comes to comments, the legal right to say things is dependent upon the LJ Terms of Use, as well as any laws in place.

Yea because LJ is a privately owned thing and the First Amendment doesn't protect you here.
