I'm rarely so completely engaged in an interlude, my senses and my heart.
I wanted to pull out some favorite lines, but I think there were too many. For a sampling though:
Truth is, though-in a dark, hidden place inside he never wants to think about-there are a thousand more benign ways to lose them. Monsters no weapon can defeat, demons no exorcism or holy water can touch.
For a moment, Sam’s not the only one with trouble breathing.
and
Sammy, though…Sammy just squirms briefly and settles, head back against John’s shoulder. “I’ll be okay. Don’t worry.”
There’s a faint pat on his knee, thump thump thump, and John grins suddenly, hearing Dean’s voice, hearing his own, in Sam’s reassurance.
Sam’s chin digs into John’s ribs as he nods. Whispers Winchesters like it’s a magic word, full of power and promise.I love the oh-so-realistic little details, like how Sammy carefully scratched off the price on the videotape, and how you show John's mind wandering through all the responsibilities he's
( ... )
I am so amazed and pleased this touched you so much. There is something about these ages that never fails to appeal to me. I am glad you found details to enjoy as well! Thanks for the constant cheerleading and brainstorming!!
He sits, pulling Sammy under the shelter of his arm, little body like a furnace burrowing into him. “Think it’s about time we paid the doc a visit, Tiger.” His tone is calm, unworried, even as his mind supplies words like bronchitis and pneumonia and what if.
I love how this reveals so much with so few words. You cover a world of worry, not only capturing every parent's universal anxiety, but more specifically John Winchester's. John, more than just about anyone else, knows just how much there is to be worried about in this big bad world.
Great characterization, lovely writing. Thanks so much - hope you write more stories soon!
That was truly amazing. I'm pretty sure you've made my life.
This is the most touching story I've ever read and exactly what I had in mind, though you definitely wrote it better than I could imagine it lol. Thank you so much!
I loved how John was still a rough hunter but that you showed he has the sensitive side as well. I just love seeing him with the boys.
The fact that you added Sick!Sam give you like a million bonus points.
I can't thank you enough. I feel like it's Christmas!
Thank you--and YAY!!!! It is so awesome to get comments for a fic, but it's the best ever to know the person I wrote it for is happy with the end product! I am just thrilled. Christmas all around! \o/
