Very Strange - But No Strangers

Jun 09, 2024 15:56

Yesterday I ran into 23 people,
I wasn't expecting to see.

23 INDIVIDUALS.

Not couples or groups,
but individuals
who weave over
one-by-one
or wave me down
to say,
"The Wench!!
Good to see you!"

or who I weave over to,
or wave over,
or touch gently on the shoulder from behind,
"Hey! I thought I recognized that ( Read more... )

I feel tired reading this!!! I got more sleep than you did, but I haven't slept properly for days. Argh. Flashbacks.

Yeah it's a Normal Thing for me where I live. In fact, running into someone usually ends up being a great way to catch up with them!

I love it *smiles*

What did you see at the movies?

Running unexpectedly into a loved/friendly familiar person always feels like such a gift in the moment! Like... it feels like magic that the world ISN'T all terrible awful surprises, that there are beautiful surprises waiting for us, too!

Oh, and at the theater I saw 16 short films made by local filmmakers for the 50 Hour Film Slam... a local competition where teams have 50 hours to write, produce, film, and edit an entire short film in 50 hours. Some of them were SO great!!

Doesn't it!

I think it's how we are built. It would be normal in a small community. I think our brains evolved for it. It makes us so happy and feel so connected and lucky to be where we are.

oh yes! I know the type. We have a short film festival for locals, or we did and I have seen many of them. They are fun and yes omg some of them are just brilliant!

Sounds like a fantabulouskywonderful day!

Living in Philly (especially my specific part of Philly), I run into familiar faces and friends very often (never TWENTY-THREE).

What sort of event facilitated these run-ins??

I was volunteering at PRIDE (I'm sure there were even more people there that didn't notice me or I didn't notice them because it's such a busy day) then volunteering at a local filmmaker Film Slam premiere of the final short films, and then I went to a new acquaintance's birthday party at a bar and found out a lot of my friends are her friend already.

What a fun (and long and tiring) day!

I love seeing and hearing about your community in Fishtown! There's a very small neighborhood where I used to work where it's only like 3 square blocks... but whenever I visit those 3 square blocks for a bite to eat, drink, or a movie I WILL run into at least two people I love! MINIMUM!
