I don't know if this will be too unrelated of a rant, but I used to be a big fan of Tegan and Sara, who started out as an angsty folk duo, moved into rock, before becoming mindless pop. I haven't liked their new music in a long time, but read their memoir. It felt really bizarre that Sara is so offended at the idea of ever playing a guitar again now, referring to it as a "penis". To me, the guitar is just a guitar... it has strings, it makes sounds. Sure there's societal thoughts about rock and women in rock, but it's just a guitar... Now after whatever she went through, the guitar itself is a symbol of sexism

There are SO FEW artists out there where I actually know their whole catalog, read their biographies on purpose (I read things that fall into my hands/eyes usually) or really know anything about them as people... so I know Tegan and Sara as a part of the 90s grrrl power v. riot girl v. angry woman sorta time where women, and even a handful of out queer women could be musicians AND whatever their identities are... and still "make music for everyone" even if it was *gasp* angry or about not fucking dudes, or they were not-gorgeous-to-men.. you know Woman Sin stuff that usually means they're not allowed careers
