The two recommendations i got from an old Vegas regular was to eat at the Omelet House and to visit the Pinball Hall of Fame, both off-strip indie institutions that are still around and maybe worth a visit if you're heading that way. I also remember eating excellent Mexican food at various strip mall taquerias. And if you have a car doing a "circle" tour around Pahrump etc is kinda cool to see all the weird roadside brothels and casinos and churches and RV parks that look like they're some smash-up of the Old West with Googie post-apocalypse nuclear doom. Truly it's the Americanest place in all of America. Enjoy!
