What do you do when your practice gets stagnant? I have done a few different things at different stages in my life as a practicing Pagan when my practice has become boring, stale or stagnant... sometimes I just need to read a new book and try out a new idea. I have a question, and I hope it's not a stupid one - Down Under, do people celebrate Halloween on October 31st, which would be springtime for you, or on May 1st, which would be fall for you? I don't mean Pagans; I mean the general public.

One of my friends raised this question, and I thought I gave a good answer, but your entry has me thinking about it again.

The answer to that question is yes, in Australia the general public do celebrate Halloween on October 31st. We had some kids come trick-or-treating for the first time last year. Some Pagans get their knickers in a twist about it (just as much as some of the Christians do!), but I think it's a bit of harmless fun. I am looking forward to it this year as we plan to stock up on treats and decorate the house for it. It's kind of weird having everyone dress-up spooky when it's spring, but I don't mind any more than I mind people giving chocolate bunnies and eggs when it's Autumn! Halloween/Samhain and Beltaine are both to do with the thinning of the veil between the worlds, just in a slightly different way. Halloween is to do with the veil to the world of the dead and at Beltaine the veil to the world of the unseen nature spirits is thin (best time to see faeries!).
