Midwinter Magic

Jun 23, 2014 21:20

Hi everyone. I just want to share with you all what a lovely time I had for the midwinter solstice this year.

In the morning Brenton and I took Jonah to the Mount Larcom show and had a really great time. We would have stayed for longer if Jonah wasn't tired. I put some pictures on Facebook and Instagram, but I'll share a few of them here anyway:

In the afternoon I went for a walk to a nearby park and I took a plastic bag to pick up rubbish. There was a lot of rubbish and my bag actually wasn't big enough, so I'll remember that next time. I listened to some music (Gary Stadler and Wendy Rule's Deep Within a Faery Forest), meditated and wrote in my gratitude journal. It was so nice and peaceful being in nature. I really should do it more often. Here are some pictures of this lovely spot:

I then went home and watered the garden. Most of my garden is quite neglected at the moment with lots of weeds (we need to remedy that situation and probably will on the weekend since Brenton's mum is away so we won't get to go and visit her all weekend), but my herbs are growing really well and... check out my strawberry patch! I am hoping for lots of strawberries when they're in season again.

I had been planning to cook a really nice dinner, but I actually woke up feeling sick so I asked Brenton if we could have takeaway and he said yes. After dinner I put on my blue velvet robe (I will take a picture of it and post it here one of these days!) and did my solitary ritual. It was a really simple ritual. I was emailing my IDGAF mentor Amy and asking her for advice on doing rituals and she mentioned that when she's at home by herself she's quite relaxed and informal with how she does her rituals. She suggested just changing it up and trying different things to see if it changed how things felt energetically. It was early in the evening and Bugalugs hadn't gone to bed yet, so I did something simple but kind of different to how I normally do things. I cleansed with salt and water as well as incense to mark sacred space, then I used my ceremonial blade to cast a circle. I visualised the elements instead of actually calling them in and then I just had a simple meditation and gave myself a reading with angel cards and wrote about the reading in my journal. I am too tired to post about my reading here (and still not feeling 100%), so have a picture of my altar:

I've had the white velvet altar cloth on there since the new moon, I will probably take it off and change it soon. I had 3 candles at the front of my altar: a beeswax blend taper, a beeswax tea light in a gold star candle holder that I got from the ladies at Jonah's playgroup for Christmas and a scented soy wax candle. They didn't really have any special significance except for representing purity, lighting my way in the dark winter days and celebrating the imminent return of the sun.

I am so glad that I found the burgeoning IDGAF tradition and grateful that it's giving me a reason to learn new things and practice my spirituality more regularly! I am so grateful to IDGAF's founders for starting their tradition and letting me be a part of it.

Anyway, I am going to head to bed now... hopefully I'll wake up feeling better and won't end up on Prednisolone again. *Touch wood*

Goodnight, thank you for reading and Blessed be. xx
