By Land, Sky and Sea

I finished reading the book By Land, Sky and Sea by Gede Parma (an Australian author). I had actually read this book before, but when I was reading it last I found out I was pregnant, so the last half of the book was a bit of a blur because my thoughts were centred around "OMG I'm having a kid", making it hard to concentrate on anything else at the ( Read more... )

Sounds like your reading is going well! I liked the Scott Cunningham books that I've read, but I haven't read "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner." A lot of people recommend it, though. As a side note, I think that was the book that started the trend with popularizing the term "Wicca" which has led to a huge debate in the Pagan community. Which I think is one of the reasons why a lot of the Wiccan/witchcraft/Pagan communities on LJ are moribund. In fact, none of the communities that I'm in are active, with the exception of my posts in urbanpagan. It's pretty sad.

But anyway ... exercise, I found (when I've done it) is something you have to do regularly (as in nearly daily) in order to stay in shape and not have the next class kick you in the butt. Not that I'm one to talk (looks in the direction of the gym across the street where she has a membership but never goes ...)

So glad you got out with people today. Sometimes that's all it takes to make a difference in one's mood.

I know what you mean about the debate surrounding the use of the word Wicca and how it has ruined a lot of the pagan LJ communities. I can see how there is a difference between British Traditional Wicca and the kind of Wicca written about by authors like Cunningham, but it's a shame that there had to be so much shit-slinging over it. I watched a YouTube video recently by a girl around my age (so late 20's) who is Gardnerian, and she pointed out that a lot of folks who have such a problem with solitary eclectics using the term Wicca are not actually trad-craft Wiccans themselves. I suppose some are, but a lot of them (as she said) are just 17 year-olds trying to prove they know more than the next 17 year-old. I personally don't call myself Wiccan, but I do have NeoPagan beliefs and practices that I guess stem from the kind of Wicca that's written about by folks like Cunningham. I don't actually know all that much about BTW, but I personally don't think people should have such a tantrum about solitary eclectic NeoPagans who choose to ( ... )
