A Democrat's Rant
I'm not the biggest Howard Stern fan - I do find his radio show entertaining sometimes, and at others he rakes on me a tad as your "average" non-supermodel girl. But that is my shit. That being said - I am completely and utterly livid, paralyzed from the audacity of what's about to take place today. They're trying to pass a bill - the "Indecency Act" apparently - which would mean that anyone being "indecent" on mass communications would be fined half a million dollars. What the fuck is going on here, America??? Firstly - let's see - WHO in god's name is to determine exactly what is "indecent"??? I mean, play that clip of Janet Jackson's boob in Europe and we would have heard the riles of laughter and cheers from here. WHO is to determine what is "offensive"? The Right-Wing-Pole-Shoved-Eternally-Up-The-Asses in Congress? Those that doubtfully have ever had sex without their clothes on? What are we "protecting our children" from exactly? The try to take away contraception, family planning, replacing it with the "decent" act of abstinence? Don't we have BIGGER problems to worry about???
And HOW is it that it takes years upon years to pass bills that America REALLY NEEDS, yet in a matter of days this bill that opposes nothing of substance and is completely inconsequential is being brought to a vote?
I can take a few guesses - we're being led right now by some of the most fundamentalist, anit-progression, torrid and unethical bastards ever to walk this planet. It's their way or the highway - their subjective views are what's right and they are going to try to impose them upon us all. Buy bill's way through the process in an effort to stifle people who disagree.
I feel helpless, paralyzed. I am ashamed to be American today. And Canada is looking mighty tempting...
