:/ I am definitely feeling like I'm falling more and more into the role of 'shy Asian girl', because of how uncomfortable I am at work and just about everywhere nowadays. Even though I'm in no way shy as not really Asian. I am totally doing as described, gripping my mask more and more tightly, but it's also being pressed on me by my bosses and coworkers.

This is something I'd noticed a while back about Glee, though I wouldn't have known how to put it in a formal social theory type of way. But the fact that the cheerleaders are ALWAYS in costume, except for brief periods when they're not cheerleaders, and the letterman jackets, and each person's very unique-from-the-other-characters type of style that seems to define who they are - YES, it is all about the disguises we wear, and the identities we claim as our own and then cling to so desperately. I would be very interested in reading a longer work exploring these themes :)
