You know Doc? Wow! I thought he lived in the sticks of Alaska and never talked to anyone!
Am I the first one to 'squee' over the Doc connection and not the tablet? :-)
A bunch of us did chip in last year to buy a close friend a tablet for Christmas last year, so I -do- know that wacoms are WAY expensive. Used to know someone who actually worked at Wacom and they had some interesting things to say about the company (weird interesting things - they're all moonies).
You are indeed! He does talk to folks, but his connection is kind of crappy. He wants me to try my hand at coloring one of his strips one of these days and I can't wait!
Cintiqs did have glass faces with first production, but they switched to the current polycarb face. I've heard they went back to the glass face.
I used a 12X with the glass face and it was marvelous. I've the current Cintiq21 with the polycarb face, and it's smooth enough. When it's cold, my gloved hand doesn't slide as well but it takes a few moments to start to warm up.
The other con against the polycarb face is that it will scratch. I have several on mine, from the nib of the pen. I changed out to a different one, and haven't had scratching. It doesn't affect drawing, just a slight "bump" when I move over that area.
This isn't a "oh, Cintiq is better!", just a bit of info I have on the drawing surface from owning/working with them. Thanks for the info on the Yiynova. I'll have to go take a look.
No offense taken! I know someone who actually removed the acrylic screen on their Cintiq and scraped it because they hated the anti-glare coating on it (it muddied the artwork color a bit) so I'm glad they switched back.
The main value of the Yiynova is the price for the quality you get. But that doesn't mean that a Cintiq is crap either. I was perfectly happy with mine except I wanted a bigger surface.
