Chere, this is why you need to come visit New Orleans. We eat these all the time. Dey's called "beignets". ;-)

And that is why places like Cafe Du Monde are rolling in money, even though they only charge only something like a buck-fifty for a plate of beignets and a cafe au lait. *grins and wipes powdered sugar off my face*

I'd was tempted to order their mix, but then I saw all the rolling and cutting and flouring, and I thought.. Heck I got a can of refrigerator biscuits right here I can cut up!

I'm sure those beignets are heavenly though.. hmmm.. maybe I'll try them. *bookmarks Cafe Du Monde page*

Oh, trust me, you're better off with the refrigerator biscuits- they make MUCH better beignets than the ones from the CDM mix. I don't know why, but the ones in the mix come out hard instead of all pouffy, the way they're supposed to be. All you really have to do is flatten and quarter the refrigerator dough to make small beignets, then sift powdered sugar over them once they're out of the oil. Gooooooood stuff! *g*

Bon appetit!
