My boss and her hubby just bought a little cabin and some property for their retirement home. Eventually they're going to knock down the existing cabin and build a brand new one. This is the model they've chosen: http://loghomelinks.com/barna/plans/monterey.htm
Oh, that's lovely! It's just amazing what they're doing now with log homes. They're not just little log cabins (although you can still get one of those too). LOL, some of them are multi-million dollar estates now. Needless to say, I'd never be able to afford one on a teacher's salary.. haha.. but a girl can dream. I just love how serene they "feel". Just all cozy and whatnot. Plus after living a lifetime in the big city, I'm so ready get away from it at this point, go live in the woods and be a hermit of sorts.. LOL
Oh, what's that behind the house? Why, it's your smaller GUEST log house, where I will be coming to visit... purely to help with that writer's block (in between morning and afternoon horse-back rides), of course, because I'm so nice that way. :-D
Wouldn't that be awesome? We could have our own "writer's retreat" at my place! Gather a bunch of us LJ fic writers and just hang out for a week at the ole log house! LOL
BTW - I have *always* wanted a log home, ever since I was a little girl. My idea of a compromise is to (when I actually get a house) decorate the living room lodge style. Lots of wood with hunter green as an accent color.
I've always loved them too, and the lodge style decor. I do have some in my home now, but I'd call mine more Native American themed? I still find it earthy and comforting. Hunter green is a fave of mine. :)

And my log home love is once again rekindled.
