In Focus.

Looking back on 2009, I have come to the conclusion that I am able to make some decent financial decisions when it comes to budgeting my income. I was able to save nearly $28k in total (exceeding last year's resolution), made some large purchases, and engaged in unique activities. Some of these highlights include my 52" Sony Bravia LCD, my visit ( Read more... )

I'm an Electrical Engineer at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard working on Naval Submarines' Electrical Distribution systems, which I've done for about 3.5 years now. I was hired at $53k in 2006 and now, after many step increases, cost of living increases, tenure and lots of overtime, I come close to 6-figures. It's not my dream job, but a decent initial position out of college.

Wow!
That's been a good choice of work. =)

My pay has been static for 3 years. Everyone's has, because of "the recession". =(

It's way to the right of the curve for a lot of people! But then you are very talented.

Yes, I've been relatively fortunate in my career thus far, which inconjunction with my purchases and activities, inspired the title of my last LJ entry "Recession-proof", even though it was the only position I was offered after college. I feel that I would be better suited for a technical career more geared toward my education and interests, so I'm looking for that while doing this.
...but I still plan to win the lottery someday too.

Thank you! :)

Love the last line; "These resolutions are ambitious; they will require my Focus."

Waitaminnute, of course they will require the Focus. How else do you plan to travel to everywhere to do these things? Besides, why else did you buy a Focus, if not to drive it?

Have a happy new year, and these should be no sweat, you already have the Focus, it's in the driveway.

Indeed. Unless I'm walking somewhere, like I did this evening, to avoid the insanity of parking my Focus, which can require much focus. That being said, my Focus was clearly on the street in front of my condo earlier. :)

I'm so envious of you!! anonymous January 1 2010, 12:08:17 UTC
Oh, dear!!! I really admire you for being so strong in pursuing your aims!!
And I can barely say how much I also envy you... and that's of course not because of the money :P

If I could ever be half so good looking, half so clever, half so feminine (and have half your earnings, too xD) I'd feel I'm in heaven!! :)

I wish you all the best for this 2010!!

Greetings from an admirer in Argentina,

P.
