I agree with the money as motivation. People work for money to buy happiness and get caught up in the... work. What happened to happiness? I work because it IS happiness. No, wait, I'm a glutton for punishment. Masochism = happiism.

I disagree with the Gay rights comment. Gays have just as many rights as me. You think they should get handicapped stickers to park in the front row? While I find that notion HILARIOUS, (and Pat, I'm sure, thinks it's a wonderful idea) I still think some get "rights" and "acceptance" confused.

Ben,
The day I am able to legally marry another man and have all the same rights as any other person, then there will be equal gay rights. You forget that it was only June that sexual relations between individuals of the same sex were legal in all fifty states. I'm not allowed to legally marry, or adopt a child. The fundamental social aspect of America (the family) is denied to me because I'm gay. Legally I'm less of a person than you. I'm afraid you got "rights" and "acceptance" mixed up.

I guess the metaphor that works for me here is to tell a pre civil rights black man that he had all the same rights as a white man, if he would just stop being black. Just like the black man, who was legally less of a human than the white man, a gay person in our country is legally less of a human than straight people. A law that recognizes gay people as equal to straight people is acceptance, to a certain extent. Ask the black man if he would rather have his protection under the law or acceptance. I'm not sure what his response would be, but give me protection and equality under the law. You want to say that we are the same. In some ways yes, but legally no.
