Just FYI, I have the following books from my 'How Do Women Look' course, and if you think any of them would be useful to you I can bring them back to Skidmore with me:
Where the Girls Are: Growing Up Female with the Mass Media by Susan J. Douglas This deals with music, movies, and television that would be familiar primarily to the baby boom generation
Divided Lives: American Women in the Twentieth Century by Rosalind Rosenberg History of women and feminismn throughout the 20th C.
The Feminist and Visual Culture Reader Ed. Amelia Jones Various essays and excerpts on many topics. This seems like it might have the most relevant material for you, and it would be easier to use since it's a collection of essays rather than a full length book.
