As for other naming conventions, my first computer was the Hive because it hummed like an angry hive of bees. Riffing on the theme, my next laptop was RedQueen. After that, my desktop machines were named after a series of story characters I was working with at the time: Alys, Nona, and Romana. My current PC is Sheena, named for my favorite character from Tales of Symphonia.

My first car, a white pinto wagon handed down by Mom, was dubbed St. Stephen, because everywhere he went the people all complained.
My first built computer was Deep Thought (Natch).
Ever since then, my naming convention has been Tolkein inspired. My MP3 player is Gwaihir and my 'puter is Manwe. My phone is Saruman, as he is not really to be trusted but does pack a lot of punch.
My first lappy was Mithrandir, and that name passes on to each new laptop (as Mithrandir has been incarnated more than once, it seems appropos).
