Searching by tags in LJ?

Feb 22, 2008 23:27

So, a friend asked me to link her to one of my old entries earlier today, and I realized I have NO idea how to search through past entries by tags. What is the purpose of these darn things if you can't use them to filter? Luckily, I knew about what date range I was looking for, and I found the entry that way. But, surely it must be easier than

You CAN use them to filter. Amazingly efficiently. If you'd like to see an example, go look at my journal...the tags list is on the right.

The thing is, if you are using a journal style that doesn't include a tags list, then it's a little more difficult. Not all LJ styles provide you with a clickable list of tags. Some do. But no matter what, you can do it through Manage Tags: http://www.livejournal.com/manage/tags.bml

Select the tag you want and click "display journal entries" and it'll bring up all the entries with that tag. Alternatively if you know the name of the tag, just use this url:

http://madlori.livejournal.com/tag/[tag name]

Obviously with your own username, not mine, and without any brackets around the tag name.

What she said :) Oh, and if your tag consists of two words, you put a '+' in between.

E.g. searching for posts that have the tag lj help would be http://genealogygirl.livejournal.com/tag/lj+help.
