I can relate, my friend. My folks once had a Pioneer stereo system, and it was the best-sounding system we'd ever had. Recently, my brother got his hands on a similar tuner of a similar model, and it sounds gorgeous.
Even in newer equipment, I sometimes favor "older" stuff. I learned recently that my Fostex MR16 DAW has been discontinued. On a whim, I played a little with a BOSS DAW in a store. It looks like it has more features, but it's not as intuitive to use. I hope mine doesn't die anytime soon ;)
Hehe, while I like new stuff I still have a grand respect for the older items because some of them cannot be replicated today. And period music sounds the best on the original equipment.

If you like it, that's plenty of reason to keep doing it!
If you're making music for yourself, then just make music for yourself. If you like the sound of analog synths.... then play with analog synths.
It's that easy.
Have yourself a blast!
