Doctor Who: The Hungry Earth
4 Out of 5
Quick write of my review:
Humans…your so nostalgic. Ha. So true. I know that I’d probably go wave to myself if I knew where I was going to be. “Let’s go and have a look.” Explains everything you need to know about the Doctor. Ha. And I thought it was cute that Rory wanted to protect Amy’s engagement ring. When Rory gets confused as a police officer and decides to just go with it, it shows a lot about his character. Willing to help others. The scene in which Amy is pulled under the earth was done brilliantly. As Amy sinks you can hear the desperation in the Doctor’s voice. And it was this scene that made me realize that maybe the Doctor liked Amy, maybe he didn’t, it doesn’t matter. The fact is that she is everything to him at the moment. She is literally the first person that he meets and they have both known each other their whole lives. You can see the anguish in his face as she sinks and Matt acted it out perfectly.
“When you’ve eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.” -Sherlock Holmes. What a fantastic quote!
I love when the Doctor is working things out and spitting out random knowledge and the people around him look at him like he has eight heads. I must say that I was skeptical about Rory at first but I really do like him now. And in the scene where Rory finds out that Amy is gone it is clear that Rory at this point is making his way to a full companion. Which I like. There are moments where Rory puts the Doctor in check and isn’t worried about calling it how it is. When the Doctor pops up and says “Me!” I laughed so hard. And then you start to hear the ‘save the day’ Doctor theme music. But I’ve noticed in the past few episodes that they have kept the same music but changed the tone a few different times to suit the scene. Change of tempos, instruments…LOVE IT! Now I don’t mind hearing it often. Now that it is unique to the scene and not a carbon copy every time. Still the same music but still different. Yay. “I’m asking nicely. Put them away.” I don’t know about you but what I heard there is ‘B**ch, I said no weapons.’ HAHA I liked that Eliot asked the Doctor if he missed home. If only to her the Doctor reply ‘So much’. The homo-reptilia’s (or Surlerian) masks remind me of the mask that Preditors wear. With all their abilities. And I want heat vision sunglasses. Awesome. For a warrior of her race Alaiya stupidly ran into the truck when simply dodged by the Doctor. I like that you see the flickr of anger come from the anger when Alaiya insults the Doctor by trying to say she is the last of her race.
The interrogation scene was great. The Doctor showing his understanding of the prisoner and his defending the humans. In the next scene I liked his inspirational speech. His ‘best of humanity’ speech. And I loved the music here. We’ve heard it in a few eps this seasons and a bunch in past seasons. I keep laughing every time Alaiya calls the humans ‘apes’. And I’m not liking Eliot’s mom. She’s an ass. Small tribal settlement…um…NO! Oh man I cannot wait to see what happens now!
