Anyone want to start up non-profit with me?

So, amongst the Gasparilla ridiculousness yesterday, I thought about how wasteful beads are.  People go crazy for them, but after the parade they are thrown away.  It's horrible for the environment.  Plus, there is a certain sense of accomplishment in the ownership of those beads and you may feel guilty for throwing them away.  Why not donate them ( Read more... )

i have bags of beads from numerous parades i attended in new orleans.

I'll take them!

I don't think I could do this very practically until next year before Gasparilla and Guavaween. It seems like New Orleans/Biloxi area would be better, due to the number of parades during Mardi Gras. I think I'm going to find out where all the Krewes get their beads and try to work with the purveyor to see if they'll participate or buy back beads. (I think Features in S.Tampa does a lot if it, and they're a local business.)

In the mean time, I'll take any beads. I'm going to be a crazy bead hoarding lady until I figure something out.

the beads i have are in buffalo. but new orleans has parades nearly weekly. they have parades for EVERYTHING. st patricks day is a three day thing. mlk day. fourth of july. you may want to see if something like this exists, in fact, i think one does.

It does. In New Orleans. They one upped my by employing people with disabilities to do the bead sorting. (COMEONNNNN, how can I compete with that?..hehe.)

There's nothing like this in Tampa yet.
