You see, I did something last night that I don't think I have done in a very, very long time. I watched a little of the local news and the very first story covered was on a smoking ban in Belmont. At first, I was all for it save for one point ( Read more... )

Unfortunately, smoke can get around ventilation systems. And like it or not, when you live in an apartment complex, you affect the people around you. Would you be ok with similarly lifting noise ordinances in residential complexes? What about the use of virulent insect poisons, as long as it was kept to one unit and any surrounding property rented by the tenant? Would a person be justified using cocaine illegally in their own home, as long as they bothered nobody else? After all, if people choose to play loud music, use bad drugs, or smoke in their own home, why should the people around them care ( ... )

I agree with you. These days you can be a 'have' and still only be able to afford a rental unit.

I agree with you Panji. I don't smoke, well an ocassional puff of a clove once a year. But I think things are going way too far when people try to control your habbits like smoking and wheather or not your allowed to spank your child etc.

Too many soccer moms with nothing better to do.

I think they should focus on real problems, homless, education, global warming, animal shelters etc.

I want a ban on drinking too. Tha has the possibility of affecting me as a neighbor. The puke, the smell of piss when you can't find your privvy and piss outside, the people coming over to party with you that might thieves or druggies. . .

Sheesh.

Smoking is legal. People trying to step all over other people's personal freedoms need to get a clue and understand what an invasion of privacy like this could mean for the future.

I don't like it when people cook fish and leave windows open but I'll be fuckeed if I would support a ban against it.

You catch a wiff of something you don't like but is legal? Close the window. In the car, in your house, wherever. smoking outside? Go across the street. People are getting too used to pacifying the whiners instead of them coming up with saner solutions.
