An open heart on a darkened stage [Jim/Bones]

Oct 01, 2011 23:04

Jim stared at the door for a long time after Blake and his... brother had left. His father. George Kirk… or Thor, as it appeared. A fucking god.

It wasn't possible. It shouldn't be possible. And yet ( Read more... )

Leonard was honestly surprised Jim had stayed off the bridge as long as he did. Not that he checked the computer (that often) to keep tabs on Jim's whereabouts, but the fact that the captain obeyed his doctor's instructions made Leonard chuckle, given the fact that his doctor for this officially was M'Benga.

Entering their quarters a little early, Leonard hoped for a nap before dinner, then maybe taking Jim out for a walk around the arboretum to reward his good behavior. Something on Jim's face stopped him as he approached.

"Are you okay?" he asked, worried.

He looked up when Bones came in, surprised to see him so soon. "I don't... I'm not sure." Jim stood there next to the chair, for once in his life not sure what to do or where to go. Lost.

It was a strange feeling, like he was free-falling without a chute (again). Jim scratched his head, meeting Bones' eyes. Seeing the worry there made him feel both better and worse. Better that he had someone worrying for him, but worse for making Bones worry about him yet again.

"I just talked to Blake. And his... brother."

Ever since that scene in the infirmary, Leonard had been wary about Donald Blake, or whatever he was calling himself. And that brother of his... It hadn't taken much investigating to find the old Norse legends, reading about the mythos surrounding these men.

Still hard to believe that Jim was related to either of them. Part of him wondered how this affected Jim's physiology. Leonard knew him better than anyone, knew his records inside and out - and while Jim's medical record wasn't out of the ordinary, there were some aspects of it that didn't quite add up. Maybe this explained it. "Did they answer all your questions?" he asked, one arm wrapping around Jim as he pulled him close for a hug.

Jim let his head rest on Bones' shoulder, his arms sliding around his waist. "The ones I asked, I guess." He thought back over the conversation. "He... Thor..." Jim shook his head, his breath warm on Bones' neck as he sighed. "What am I supposed to believe? Everything I know about my family is suddenly wrong."

He didn't like feeling this way. "It was a lot to take in. I told him I needed some time to think about all of this." Jim tightened his hold on Bones, straightening up to nose against his cheek. "There's something you need to know."

Jim wasn't sure how to begin, what to say to Bones. The idea that he could be cured was wonderful and terrible all at once. If it didn't work, or if it was all just made up, a tale to buy Loki a measure of freedom... Jim sighed, confused and uncertain.
