Hikaru was heading for the lift as well, grinning when he saw Kirk heading in. "Captain!" he called out, jogging quickly to catch it.

But Kirk had those furrows on his forehead, the one usually reserved seen on the CMO's face. "You okay?" he asked as the lift whirred softly around them.

"Sulu." Jim held the lift door, then leaned back against the wall as they traveled down from the bridge. "I'm all right," he said with a crooked grin. "Just tired. She's getting so big, it's fucking with my back." He shook his head. "Don't get me wrong, I'm excited... but I guess I'm getting to the uncomfortable stage."

He straightened up as the lift doors opened. "I'm worried, too, about these new orders."

It was difficult, even in this day and age, for Hikaru to come to grips with one of his best friends, a man, being pregnant, but fuck it if Jim Kirk wasn't taking it all in stride. Sulu had to hand it to him, the man still looked physically impressive, if just a bit larger around the center of his body. From a distance, he might simply look overweight, though up close, one could see that the bulk of his weight had shifted to his abdomen. "I can't imagine what it's like, Captain," he began, chuckling. The look on Jim's face told him that he knew exactly what people were thinking, and he didn't fucking care. That was awesome ( ... )

Jim knew it was still strange to a lot of people, the fact that he was pregnant. It still felt surreal to him a lot of the time, but in so many ways he was adapting to it, excitement and curiosity taking precedence over other, less positive emotions. He had his moments of insecurity or fear, and the hormones made his mood shift unpredictably sometimes, but he'd managed so far. He'd been good, for the most part, doing what he was supposed to do and taking care of himself and the baby. He was focused on what he could control and didn't much care what people might think affect him, but friendly curiosity or concern was another matter, and he chuckled, looking over at Hikaru. "It's an adventure, put it that way," he admitted. "It's surprising, how quickly things change. And feeling her kick..." He stopped, shaking his head with a broad grin as he tried to think how to explain. "It's weird, but... it's amazing ( ... )
