my retainer forfeited and walked back to the orthodonist

I should be asleep..but I looked for my retainer the other night for hourse..ciouldnt find it..looked for it for an hour earlier before I went to bed and couldn't find it. Today I woke up feeling out of place without it but searched and couldn't find it :( WHy!?
