I'm guessing they switched it up so that the Rachel's mom plot would flow smoother? -.o idk. But I agree, the overall emotional flow would have worked a lot better if they'd been shown in the original order. =/
The Mommy storyline did flow better but it could have waited. I think if it had waited, we would have felt like Rachel had had more time to come to terms with the fact that her mom was out there somewhere. While I'm in no way dissatisfied with the way they managed the Rachel/Shelby thing, I don't see why it couldn't have waited.
The fact that Glee is willing to make reference to a storyline from two episodes ago makes me take the show a little but more seriously. The way everything seemed to move choppily from one ep to the next was starting to remind me of one of CBS's sitcoms and I stopped watching those because, among other things, they lacked the ability to utilize the wealth of interactions and relationships they had built between the characters. But I think, even if the eps were mangled, I'd still watch Glee :D
My inner-Puckleberry was squeeing when Puck jumped up to protect Rachel after the egging debacle, but I agree that the continuity seemed off.
While this show is inevitably supposed to end Rachel/Finn (gag me), I still think it's funny that they're creating that build-up for Rachel and Puck. Maybe they're just too dumb to notice it or are playing with our minds. Either way, I'm rooting for Rachel to end up with her true soul mate (obviously since she's the only person he opens up to).
Also, while I totally understand the Mercedes/Quinn friendship because of the build-up from previous episodes, I would have liked to have seen this BFFness happen sooner.
While the switcheroo worked in some aspects, the overall flow of the story was off and some things didn't add up. Like, how on earth is Quinn still not gigantic with only a month to go while the other preggo girls were GINORMOUS? Seriously, fair's fair.
And your reasons why Puck and Rachel are amazing together are my reasons! I try to tell my Finchel sister all the time, but she doesn't understand. She follows the conventional pairings.
It's true that while they may not end up together, I'd still be happy if they're at least friendly (maybe secret friends like some fanfic writers have been doing...because it makes sense).
Either way, as long as they're in the same frame, I'm a happy camper. :)
Lol, seriously, just last night I was rewatching Dawson's Creek and was flabbergasted by how much Pacey and Joey remind me of P/R! And, as follows, Finn makes a great Dawson because the guy's a douche without trying to be and you know you're supposed to like him (and often you do) but really some of the crap he gets away with? Not cool.
I could go into a lot more detail (I had today off, I've been thinking about this >.>) but I agree with all you said about about Rachel and Puck being amazing together. I honestly believe that with Puck being the breakout character he's become and P/R being the ship that gets talked about the most (commentators seem to take F/R as par for the course but nothing to be excited about; mention Puckelberry to them and they're all what're they gonna do?) we've got a lot more coming our way.
And, whatever order they came in, we still got our scenes so I'm not complaining ...per se.
Your entry explains why I only skip around for the musical scores: it's not consistent! I understand that Glee is trying to be a satire and might be more focused on the music than on the drama, but I don't understand why they can't do both. I give up on understanding the dynamics of the New Directions because some days, they hate Rachel and some days, they don't (although I guess Kurt clarified it today with how they can humiliate Rachel but no one else can).

I just figured they switched the episodes around 'cause it was the super-hyped Lady Gaga episode and they wanted to get it aired during May sweeps.

To me, it just shows poor writing.
