Calling Bette

It wasn't like Henry had explicitly told Bette about his plans to propose, but he knew he'd be underestimating her if he expected her to be completely clueless on the subject. Michael had gone out to speak to his agent, something had come up and there were plenty of excited voices on the phone before he'd kissed her forehead and rushed out the door. Charlie was quite happily watching cartoons, so she'd resorted to reading through some magazines whilst the baby kicked at her internal organs.

The phone ringing made her jump for a second but she pressed the green button quickly to accept the call. "Hello, Jones/ San Soucci residence."

"You don't have my number saved with my name?"

Henry was going to blame post-proposal jitters for that rudeness. "It's Henry, hello Bette. How have you been do you have time to talk?"

He got up to close the door behind him. Not that he didn't want Rebecca to hear, but mostly because he didn't want her to hear him ..babble.

As soon as he started talking, she recognised Henry's voice. Smiling a little she answered, "Hey, I don't always look at the screen when I answer. Makes phone calls all the more exciting - plus I incorrectly assumed you might have been Michael." Not that he was likely to call if he was in an important meeting, but who knew.

"But of course I have time." All she had was time, waiting for her waters to finally break. "How are you? And Becs?"

"I don't know why you would want to add excitement to your phone calls, but we are very different when it comes to communication in any way."

He exhaled. "Okay, thank you. How have you been?"
