But it's for charity

When Rebecca was waiting for him at the end of the day, pamphlet in hand and a grin on her face that other people would call shit-eating, Henry knew that there was something going to happen that he didn't like. He knew his wife ( Read more... )

This was a total joy.

Not because Henry was uncomfortable, but because they were out as a family and doing something for the community like active members of it. The girls had their little kindergarten groups but Henry and Rebecca hadn't really gotten involved up until one of the other mothers, someone she recognised from their street, begged her to get Henry to participate. Rebecca had hesitated but then the woman had fawned over the girls and her and Henry and frankly she'd signed up before she realised what she was doing.

Now here they were and it was all very professional.

She shifted in her chair and watched.

"Oh." The dress lady tutted behind him. "I guess you've got wider shoulders than I expected." A giggle followed, and Henry was sure he smelled interest that was mostly physical. Which definitely made things worse, besides being half naked around someone that wasn't his wife, and the incredibly frilly dresses they had put his daughters in. "There's one formal page, doctor McCoy. I'm just doing what I'm told."

It took her another fifteen minutes until she was satisfied and Henry was allowed on the set, the suit a bit tighter than expected and comfortable, Eve dozing on his left arm while Lily tried to escape from her dress on his right. Thank God for small favors? Because at the very least the girls had enough hair for the lady to understand that there were no hair bows necessary.

"Henry! I can call you Henry, right?" The photographer was way too young to be a professional. "Let's get the three of you on the couch first, neatly in a row. Yes, thank you!"

Even Rebecca, who got to see Henry naked every day, had to sigh at the sight of him in a suit. It was the right colour for him making his eyes pop and Rebecca bit her lip and smiled at him with a raised eyebrow. Then the photographer - a girl studying the subject in college and frankly way too bossy for her own good - had them all sit together.

For once in her life Lily managed to sit still for five minutes, smiling her sweetest smile as Eve just cocked her head at the scenery and then at the camera like she was examining some alien landscape.

"Evey, you can smile, love." Rebecca called and the girl glanced at her and then twitched her mouth up a little. "You too, Henry." She added and grinned at him.

"Just ignore her", Henry whispered before kissing Eve's head, wincing at the flash because it seemed to the theme for today, every move caught.
But it was clear that Rebecca was enjoying herself, so he sat up right and tried to smile, putting his arms back so the girls could lean against them. "Do you need more of us on the couch?"

"Uh." The photographer looked up from her camera, smiled. "You're a beautiful p- you make a beautiful picture. All three of you, of course. But yes, no. Yes, get up. You can hold both of them on your arms? Or do they stand yet? You can squat down with them while they're standing next to you?"
"Of course they can stand already." He put the girls on the ground before squatting down. Eve clearly didn't like the unfamiliar surroundings and clung to him, but Lily felt like this was a sign to start crawling towards her mother.
"How long is this going to last?"
